Travel to Vienna
By plane
Vienna (Flughafen Wien Schwechat) is the most important air transport centre in Austria. If you visit Austria from Europe, it can be cheaper to fly by "low cost airline" as there are several flights to Vienna from all over Europe.
By car
It is easy to getting to Austria by road as it has excellent and well - maintained highway network with all European countries and cities. The borders are open 24 hours a day. To use the Austrian highway network you have to pay fee. Highway stickers can be bought in petrol stations. Always carry your driving licence, vehicle registration document and certificate of motor insurance.
By bus
Buses are cheaper and slower than plane or car but there are several bus paches from Austria to the main cities of Europe.
By train
Austrian State Railway Company (Österreicische Bundesbahnen GmbH) maintain the railway network of Austria and runs trains to the main cities of Europe. You can find several railway stations in Vienna such as Westbahnhof, Südbahnhof, Franz Josefs Bahnhof.
By boat
Fast hydrofoils ply the Danube between Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest during spring and summer but they are quite expensive. Steamers go along the Danube between Vienna and Passau from May to September. All in all, travelling by boat along the Danube is suitable for those who have money and time.
